Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a single, self-contained gorilla trekking destination rather than a stop on a wider circuit — a UNESCO World Heritage Site covering 321 square kilometres of some of Africa’s oldest rainforest, split into four trekking sectors: Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga and Nkuringo. A trip built entirely around Bwindi, without adding other parks, gives you time to actually settle into one place rather than moving lodges every night or two.

Days 1-2: Arrival and First Trek in Buhoma

Transfer and the first trekking day.

Day 3: Nature Walk and Rest

A guided forest walk and an easy day.

Day 4: Transfer to Ruhija

Moving to Bwindi’s highest sector.

Day 5: Second Gorilla Trek in Ruhija

A trek with a different family.

Day 6: Transfer to Nkuringo

Moving to Bwindi’s most remote southern sector, known for dramatic Virunga volcano views on a clear day.

Day 7: Third Gorilla Trek in Nkuringo

A trek in one of Bwindi’s quieter, less-visited sectors.

Day 8: Transfer to Rushaga

Moving to the fourth and final sector.

Day 9: Fourth Gorilla Trek or Habituation Experience in Rushaga

A fourth encounter, or the longer Habituation Experience.

Day 10: Departure

The return transfer.

Who This Suits

Serious primate travellers who want to trek in all four Bwindi sectors on a single trip — a genuinely rare itinerary most visitors never attempt.

What to Budget

Four gorilla permits, nine nights of lodging across four sectors.
