Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a single, self-contained gorilla trekking destination rather than a stop on a wider circuit — a UNESCO World Heritage Site covering 321 square kilometres of some of Africa’s oldest rainforest, split into four trekking sectors: Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga and Nkuringo. A trip built entirely around Bwindi, without adding other parks, gives you time to actually settle into one place rather than moving lodges every night or two.

Days 1-2: Arrival and First Trek

Transfer to your first sector and the initial trekking day.

Day 3: Nature Walk

A guided walk to Munyaga waterfall or a birding trail.

Day 4: Transfer to a Second Sector

Moving across the park for a different set of families.

Day 5: Second Gorilla Trek

A trek in the new sector.

Day 6: Batwa Cultural Visit

A day learning traditional forest skills with a local Batwa community.

Day 7: Gorilla Habituation Experience (Optional Third Trek)

For travellers who want a third, longer encounter, the four-hour Habituation Experience in Rushaga sector.

Day 8: Departure

The return transfer.

Who This Suits

Travellers who want the deepest possible single-park gorilla experience, including the option of three separate encounters.

What to Budget

Two or three permits (including the 1,500 US dollar Habituation Experience if chosen), seven nights of lodging.
