Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a single, self-contained gorilla trekking destination rather than a stop on a wider circuit — a UNESCO World Heritage Site covering 321 square kilometres of some of Africa’s oldest rainforest, split into four trekking sectors: Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga and Nkuringo. A trip built entirely around Bwindi, without adding other parks, gives you time to actually settle into one place rather than moving lodges every night or two.
Days 1-3: Buhoma Sector
Arrival, a first gorilla trek, and a forest walk to Munyaga waterfall.
Days 4-6: Ruhija Sector
Transfer to Bwindi’s highest sector, a second gorilla trek, and time for birding along the Mubwindi Swamp trail, one of Uganda’s best birding routes.
Days 7-9: Nkuringo Sector
Transfer to the remote southern sector, a third gorilla trek, and a community walk through Nkuringo’s terraced hillsides.
Days 10-12: Rushaga Sector
Transfer to the final sector, the Gorilla Habituation Experience for an extended four-hour encounter, and a full Batwa cultural day.
Day 13: Free Day
A built-in rest day before departure, or an optional fifth trek for travellers who want it.
Day 14: Departure
The return transfer.
