5-Day Uganda Gorilla Safari: The Complete Itinerary

5-Day Uganda Gorilla Safari: The Complete Itinerary

Published August 26, 2026 · By · 2 min read

Uganda packs four of East Africa’s most rewarding wildlife experiences into a country roughly the size of Oregon: mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest, big-game drives in Queen Elizabeth National Park, and the thundering Nile at Murchison Falls. That compactness is what makes Uganda different from a longer, more spread-out safari — you are never more than half a day’s drive from your next park gate.

What Five Days Unlocks

Five days is the first Uganda itinerary length that comfortably fits a second experience alongside gorilla trekking — a game drive and boat cruise in Queen Elizabeth National Park, roughly two to three hours from Bwindi.

Day 1: Entebbe to Bwindi

Transfer by road or air to your Bwindi sector lodge, with an evening briefing ahead of trekking day.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi

The full trekking day: ranger briefing, the walk to find your assigned gorilla family, and one hour observing them.

Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

A scenic drive north, often routed via the Ishasha sector, known for tree-climbing lions that rest in fig-tree branches during the heat of the day.

Day 4: Queen Elizabeth Game Drive and Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise

A morning game drive across the Kasenyi plains for elephant, buffalo, kob and, with luck, lion, followed by an afternoon boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, reliable for hippo, crocodile and strong birdlife.

Day 5: Return to Entebbe

The transfer back to Entebbe, either retracing the road route or flying out from a nearby airstrip.

Who This Suits

Travellers who want to see more than gorillas without committing to a full two-week circuit — the length most first-time Uganda visitors settle on.

What to Budget

Gorilla permit, Queen Elizabeth park fees, the Kazinga Channel boat cruise fee, four nights of lodging, and road transfers.
