4-Day Uganda Gorilla Safari: The Complete Itinerary

4-Day Uganda Gorilla Safari: The Complete Itinerary

Published August 26, 2026 · By · 2 min read

Uganda packs four of East Africa’s most rewarding wildlife experiences into a country roughly the size of Oregon: mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest, big-game drives in Queen Elizabeth National Park, and the thundering Nile at Murchison Falls. That compactness is what makes Uganda different from a longer, more spread-out safari — you are never more than half a day’s drive from your next park gate.

Why Add a Fourth Day

A single extra day over the 3-day version buys a genuine buffer, absorbing a delayed flight or bad weather without threatening your international connection — or it can be used for a second activity such as a guided nature walk or Batwa community visit.

Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Bwindi

Fly or drive from Entebbe to your Bwindi sector, checking into your lodge with enough afternoon left for a briefing before trekking day.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking

The core day: a 7:30am ranger briefing, a trek of unpredictable length to find your assigned habituated family, and a strictly enforced one hour with the gorillas.

Day 3: Buffer Day or Nature Walk

Travellers who trekked comfortably often use this for a forest walk to Munyaga waterfall near Buhoma, a birding walk, or a cultural visit to a Batwa community, displaced when Bwindi became a national park in 1991. Others simply rest at the lodge.

Day 4: Return to Entebbe

Transfer back by road or air, now with a full extra day of slack behind you.

Who This Suits

First-time trekkers who want a short trip but are nervous about the zero-margin 3-day version.

What to Budget

The same core costs as the 3-day trip plus one additional night’s accommodation and, if you choose it, a modest fee for a Batwa cultural walk.
