4-Day Uganda Gorilla Trekking Short Break

With only four days, flying is the only way to make the numbers work. Your driver-guide meets you at Entebbe for a short transfer to Kajjansi airstrip, where a scheduled light aircraft — typically an eleven or twelve-seat Cessna Caravan — takes off around mid-morning for the roughly ninety-minute hop to Kihihi or Kisoro airstrip, with a brief stop en route to drop or collect other passengers being normal on these scheduled flights. A short road transfer of thirty to forty-five minutes brings you to your lodge in time to settle in before an evening trekking briefing over dinner.

Briefing at park headquarters by 7:30am — rangers open with a short traditional song before splitting the day’s visitors into groups of up to eight and assigning each to a specific habituated family based on fitness and that morning’s tracker reports. The trek itself runs anywhere from thirty minutes to six hours through dense rainforest, and once your group finds the family you get a strict, unhurried hour with them before the walk back out and a certificate presentation.

A genuinely unhurried morning — many travellers value simply sitting with what they’ve just experienced rather than rushing straight into more activity, whether that’s a late breakfast on the lodge veranda or a short walk near the grounds. Checkout is timed against an afternoon flight back to Entebbe, again around ninety minutes in the air.

Depending on your onward flight time, this is either a direct transfer to Entebbe International Airport for check-in, or a half-day at leisure near the airport first — a swim at a lakeside hotel, or simply resting before a long-haul flight home.
