The Five Trip Styles We Run
Rather than one fixed “safari package,” we group trips by who they’re for and what they prioritise. Each style below links to its own page with real detail on how that trip type actually works in practice.
Family Tours
Built around the reality that gorilla trekking has a minimum age of 15 in both Uganda and Rwanda. Family trips combine shorter, child-friendly game drives and forest walks with age-appropriate primate activities like chimpanzee tracking or golden monkey trekking, so that everyone in the group has something suited to their age and stamina rather than forcing young children onto a full trek.
Group Tours
Designed for travellers going together – friends, colleagues, or a mixed group booking as one party – to share vehicle and lodge costs. Group logistics differ from a private trip mainly in vehicle size and lodge room-blocking, and we handle permit allocation across the group as a single coordinated booking rather than separate reservations that risk being split into different trekking groups.
Tailormade Tours
For travellers who already know roughly what they want and would rather build an itinerary from scratch than pick from a fixed package. We start from a blank calendar rather than a template, working through which parks, which activities, and which lodge tier fit your dates and budget.
Luxury Tours
Built around top-tier lodges – private cottages, personalised service, premium dining – alongside the same real permits and guiding every trip gets. The difference from our standard packages is entirely in accommodation tier and pace, not in the trekking experience itself, which is identical regardless of where you sleep.
Honeymoon Safaris
Combines gorilla trekking with a slower pace and privacy-focused lodge choices – private dinners, secluded cottages, and itineraries with more downtime built in between activity days than a standard trip.

Whichever style you choose, the underlying trip is built from the same components: a confirmed trekking permit, a guide who treks the same trails, a vehicle sized to your group, and lodging matched to your chosen tier. What changes between trip styles is how those components are assembled and paced, not the core experience of the trek itself.
How to Choose Between Trip Styles
Most travellers land on a trip style fairly naturally once they know who’s coming. Travelling with children under 15 rules out gorilla trekking for them specifically, which points toward a family-style itinerary built around alternative activities. A group of six or more friends booking together benefits from group-style logistics regardless of budget. Couples celebrating an anniversary or honeymoon often want the honeymoon style’s slower pace even without an actual wedding involved. And travellers who already have a firm idea of their ideal trip, rather than wanting to choose from a set menu, are usually best served by a tailormade itinerary built from scratch.
These categories aren’t rigid – a tailormade trip can still be a honeymoon, and a luxury trip can still be built for a group. What Doesn’t Change Between Trip Styles
Regardless of which style you choose, every trip we run uses the same underlying operational standards: permits are booked directly with the Uganda Wildlife Authority or Rwanda Development Board rather than through a third-party reseller, guides are Ugandan or Rwandan nationals trained in-country, and vehicles are dedicated 4x4s rather than shared minibus transport. The trip style changes the shape and pace of your itinerary; it doesn’t change how carefully the logistics behind it are handled.
Where These Trips Actually Go
Every trip style draws from the same short list of core parks, combined differently depending on length and focus. In Uganda, that means Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park for gorilla trekking, Kibale Forest for chimpanzee tracking, Queen Elizabeth National Park for game drives and the Kazinga Channel boat cruise, and Murchison Falls for the Nile and its waterfall. In Rwanda, it means Volcanoes National Park for both gorilla and golden monkey trekking, with Nyungwe Forest and Akagera National Park as common additions on longer itineraries. A short trip typically covers one country and one or two parks; a longer trip combines both countries into a single connected loop.
What’s Included in Every Trip, Regardless of Style
Every itinerary we build, whatever style it falls under, includes the same core components: your trekking permit or permits, a dedicated driver-guide for the full trip, ground transport in a 4×4 safari vehicle, accommodation at your chosen tier, and park entry fees for every activity on the itinerary. What’s typically excluded across every trip style is broadly consistent too – international flights, visas, travel insurance, alcoholic drinks, and gratuities sit outside the quoted price regardless of which trip style you choose, so comparing quotes across styles is a genuine like-for-like comparison rather than an apples-to-oranges one.
How Trip Length Affects Style
Trip style and trip length interact more than people expect. A 3-day trip is almost always a tailormade or luxury-style booking built around a single gorilla trek, since there’s rarely time to layer in family- or group-specific activities on that short a timeline. Longer 7 to 15-day trips have room to properly express a family or group style, since there’s enough time to split activities by age group or coordinate a larger party’s preferences without anyone feeling rushed. If you already know roughly how many days you have, that alone often narrows down which trip styles genuinely fit, before we even discuss who’s travelling.
How Trips Are Priced
Pricing on every trip breaks down into the same components regardless of style: permit costs (fixed by the Uganda Wildlife Authority or Rwanda Development Board, not something we mark up), accommodation (which varies the most, from budget guesthouses to top-tier luxury lodges), and logistics (vehicle, fuel, driver-guide fees, and park entry). Group and family trips often come out more affordable per person simply because vehicle and guide costs are shared across more travellers, while luxury and honeymoon trips concentrate spend into fewer, higher-end lodge nights rather than a longer, more budget-paced itinerary. Yes, within reason. A mixed group might trek together during the day and split between a luxury lodge and a more budget-conscious one at night. We can accommodate this kind of split as long as it’s clear upfront during planning.
Do you arrange flights into Uganda or Rwanda?
We don’t book international flights directly, but we do advise on the most convenient routing into Entebbe or Kigali for your specific itinerary, and we arrange all ground transport and any domestic transfers from the moment you land.
