What the Border Crossing Actually Involves

The Cyanika or Katuna crossing is a standard land border process — passport stamps on both sides, typically taking under an hour barring unusual delays — followed by a continued drive into Rwanda. We handle the logistics directly, and our guide stays with the group throughout rather than switching at the border.

What to Pack

Sturdy hiking boots for both treks, long trousers and sleeves, a rain jacket, and gardening-style gloves — the same core kit doubled up for two separate gorilla encounters.

Do I need separate visas for Uganda and Rwanda?

Unless you’re eligible for the East Africa Tourist Visa (covering Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya on one visa), yes — we’ll confirm current requirements for your nationality during planning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need two visas for this trip?

Yes, unless you’re eligible for the East Africa Tourist Visa, which covers Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya on a single visa for eligible nationalities.

Why trek gorillas twice?

Bwindi and Volcanoes National Park offer genuinely different terrain, park systems and even different gorilla family dynamics — many travellers find the contrast worthwhile.
