11-Day Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda Grand Safari

Your driver-guide meets you at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for the drive south-west, dropping off the Rift Valley escarpment near Maai Mahiu with a photo stop at the viewpoint, then on through Narok town before the final stretch onto reserve land. Afternoon game drive on arrival.

A full day across the Mara’s plains for lion, leopard and, in season, migrating wildebeest herds, split by a picnic lunch wherever the morning’s sightings take you.

A flight from the Mara back via Nairobi, connecting on to Amboseli’s own airstrip, Kilimanjaro visible from the air on the final approach on a clear day, in time for an afternoon game drive.

A full day among Amboseli’s famously large elephant herds, with Kilimanjaro as a backdrop before the mountain typically clouds over by mid-morning.

A transfer to Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for a regional flight to Kigali, then the drive to Kinigi, under two hours through Rwanda’s terraced hill country.

A 6am wake-up for the 7am briefing opening with a performance by the Kinigi intore dancers, then the trek itself through increasingly misty forest on the volcanic slopes and a strict hour with your gorilla family.

The drive to the Cyanika border post, a standard land-border process generally under an hour, before a Uganda-based driver-guide continues you on to Bwindi.

7:30am briefing at park headquarters, then the trek itself through dense rainforest — genuinely different terrain from Rwanda’s volcanic slopes — followed by a strict hour with your second gorilla family.

A gentler morning than the trek before it: a guided Batwa cultural encounter, led by community members who lived in Bwindi as forest-dwelling hunter-gatherers before the park’s creation for gorilla conservation displaced them in the early 1990s — traditional songs, storytelling and forest survival skills passed down through generations.

The drive back to Entebbe runs through Lake Mburo’s open grassland, with time for a stopover game drive if the schedule allows — zebra here are a genuine rarity, the only population in any Uganda park.
