9-Day Uganda Safari and Murchison Falls Nile Cruise

Your driver-guide meets you at Entebbe International Airport for the 8–9 hour drive south-west via Kampala’s Northern Bypass, the Equator crossing at Kayabwe, and lunch at Igongo Cultural Centre near Mbarara, climbing into the Kigezi highlands to reach your Bwindi sector lodge by early evening. A light aircraft option into Kihihi or Kisoro cuts this to about ninety minutes for anyone who’d rather skip the road time. Evening trekking briefing on arrival.

7:30am briefing at park headquarters, rangers assigning trekking groups of up to eight to specific habituated families based on fitness and that morning’s tracker reports, then the trek itself through dense, often muddy rainforest — thirty minutes to six hours each way — followed by a strict hour with the family before the walk back to headquarters for a certificate presentation.

North through the Ishasha sector, scanning the fig and euphorbia trees for the resident tree-climbing lions that rest there through the heat of the day, before the road continues onto Queen Elizabeth’s main game circuit and your lodge by mid-afternoon.

A late-morning boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel for the park’s dense hippo and Nile crocodile population and strong waterbird activity, then an afternoon game drive across the Kasenyi plains for elephant, buffalo and Uganda kob.

A long but scenic drive north, skirting Kibale’s forest edge with the option of a brief stop, before continuing on toward Murchison Falls — the longest single transfer of the trip, broken up with a lunch stop en route.

A stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, Uganda’s only place to see rhinos in the wild — southern white rhinos reintroduced here after the species was hunted to local extinction in the 1980s, tracked on foot with an armed ranger keeping a respectful but close distance. From Ziwa it’s a further stretch north, crossing the Nile at Karuma Bridge to reach Murchison Falls by evening.

A full morning boat cruise upriver along the Victoria Nile to the base of Murchison Falls, where the entire river forces through a gap barely seven metres wide before dropping 43 metres in a roar of spray, with strong hippo, crocodile and birdlife sightings along the banks throughout.

A short guided hike to the top of the falls for a dramatically different vantage looking straight down into the gorge, followed by an afternoon game drive across the park’s northern delta plains for lion, giraffe, elephant and buffalo.
